CSA Scientists perform nearshore surveys

Every summer, the Ports and Coastal Sciences division of CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA) performs the majority of their in-water field surveys in Florida to coincide with calm marine weather patterns, which results in good underwater visibility ideal for scientific diving.

CSA scientists nearshore400xCSA has initiated biological monitoring surveys of seagrass and nearshore hardbottom in Lee, Martin, Indian River, and Brevard Counties related to beach nourishment and maintenance dredging projects. Additionally, benthic resources such as seagrasses and macroalgae have a monitoring “window” during the summer to coincide with their primary growing season.

The summer line-up also includes nearshore hardbottom monitoring in St. Lucie and Collier Counties. CSA anticipates over 600 dives will be performed by our scientific dive team in the summer of 2019 in support of these projects.
