STUART, FL. May 20, 2019 – CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA), a leader in marine environmental consulting for the Energy, Government, Infrastructure, and Ports & Coastal Markets, announced the 2018 recipient of the CEO’s Safety Excellence Award to Project Scientist Kathleen Gifford. In late 2018, CEO Kevin Peterson solicited nominations from all CSA personnel for consideration of CSA’s most prestigious award. Nominations were considered from all departments and divisions within the company.

Submissions required a detailed description of how their nominee exceeded safety expectations and furthered CSA’s ever-growing Safety Culture. This method was selected to increase participation from all levels within the organization and encourage the sharing of positive accomplishments with Upper Management. All submissions were reviewed by the CEO, COO, and Executive Vice President for consideration. After examining all of the tremendous entries and a thorough discussion, Ms. Kathleen Gifford was unanimously selected as the clear recipient.

Ms. Gifford joined CSA as a project scientist in 2010. Immediately after her hire, CSA provided her with thorough Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) training to complement her academic and field experience, and then deployed her to Houma, Louisiana, to work on offshore environmental monitoring programs for the Deepwater Horizon Natural Resource Damage Assessment. She has been an integral part of CSA’s scientific and HSSE program ever since.

During her nine years at CSA, Ms. Gifford has spent hundreds of hours working offshore, in laboratory environments, and in operational settings in the U.S. and internationally. She serves the scientific, operational, and HSSE needs of every project on which she works, including in the role of Site Safety Officer, accepting responsibility for the safety and well-being of CSA field personnel. Ms. Gifford personifies the concept of behavior-based safety, from documentation and training to in-field and offshore operations.
