For more than five decades, CSA’s oil and gas projects have focused on helping offshore developers identify and mitigate the potential environmental risks or impacts of E&P activities. In partnership with both government agencies and private operators, CSA boasts a proven track record of planning, conducting, and analyzing multifaceted studies to assist clients in the process of minimalizing, managing, and monitoring any concerns and regulations associated with offshore energy development and distribution.
Since 1970, CSA has offered and performed highly regarded consulting services that integrate environmental and social impact studies for domestic and international energy clients. CSA’s numerous environmental studies meet recognized industry and international standards of practice and include baseline surveys (e.g., habitat characterizations), monitoring studies, fate and effects modeling and monitoring, impact assessments, and environmental resource impact mitigation and restoration (e.g., artificial reef design and siting).
In addition, CSA is well-staffed and equipped for an extensive range of applied marine services in support of oil spill response, dispersant monitoring, and environmental assessments. As needed, our broad, established network of respected environmental and social professionals supplements our extensive in-house expertise to provide project-specific technical and analytical support for impact assessments.
Extensive Oil & Gas Experience
CSA’s extensive experience has primarily been focused in the following work areas to address environmental and social concerns for offshore oil and gas activities:
- Conducting impact assessments to identify environmental consequences early in the project planning and design process to facilitate preventing, minimizing, and mitigating adverse impacts to ensure project plans are environmentally sound and sustainable. In the U.S., NEPA provides a formal mechanism for public stakeholders and non-government organizations (NGOs) to participate in the decision-making processes involving environmental issues. Internationally, the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process, which includes review by government agencies, the public, and NGOs, serves a similar function. CSA has developed hundreds of NEPA documents, EIAs, and related permitting documents.
- Evaluating baseline conditions of the existing environment to assess and monitor potential effects of oil and gas activities. CSA documents parameters and resources within ecosystems that may be sensitive to change to provide a reference point from which to evaluate future claims of impacts.
- Mitigating, managing, and monitoring identified impacts associated with oil and gas activities. CSA develops mitigation measures for corresponding potential impacts, including those required by laws or regulations, along with additional realistic, feasible, and cost-effective measures to prevent or reduce significant negative impacts. Monitoring is utilized to determine the effects of activities on the environment and the efficacy of the mitigation measures.
- Assisting clients with planning for and responding to oil spills and damage assessments, including the establishment of plans and procedures for environmental monitoring during dispersant use.
