CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. Awarded Minerals Management Service Contract
CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA) was awarded the prime contract by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Minerals Management Service for the Analysis of Potential Biological and Physical Impacts of Dredging Offshore Ridge and Shoal Features. The purpose of the project is to examine and evaluate potential impacts and suggest engineering options and mitigation measures that can be implemented to avoid deleterious effects, while allowing for selective removal of needed sand volumes. Following completion of the study report, the results will be published in a peer-reviewed journal and presented at a scientific conference by CSA scientists.
The marine environment contains large sand deposits that are expected to serve as long-term sources of material for beach restoration, coastal protection, and other public and private projects. Potential for exploitation of these resources has recently grown rapidly with identification of suitable sand resource areas in some regions of the world. Demand for high-quality sand is anticipated to increase during coming years. Stakeholders are aware sand is a valuable natural resource that should be carefully managed.
