CSA Implements Innovative Technology for Tracing Sewage Outfalls

CSA Implements Innovative Technology for Tracing Sewage Outfalls

CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA) is utilizing advance echosounder technology to examine sewage outfalls off the north coast of Puerto Rico, and has proven quite successful in terms of letting researchers “visualize” what’s going on.

Since 1999, CSA has performed comprehensive environmental monitoring for the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (PRASA) as a subcontractor to CH2M to evaluate compliance with receiving water quality standards and describe environmental conditions around six offshore submarine discharges. Typical studies conducted by CSA and CH2M during the past 14 years include mixing zone studies, sediment sampling and testing, measurement of water column properties such as pH, dissolved oxygen, and currents, and water quality sampling of influent, effluent, and receiving water.

CSA Maps Published in Water Atlas

CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA), a marine environmental consulting firm specializing in spatial data collection, analysis, and management, is featured in Water: An Atlas, a map collection published by the non-profit group Guerilla Cartography. The group uses cartography and collaboration to tell stories about global issues. Water: An Atlas can be viewed online at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Xln-2WdkA9WT95dFzYk_WO_JML2Jd-nr/view?usp=sharing.

Two maps in the Atlas are contributions from the CSA Environmental Data and Geospatial Services (EDGS) team, highlighting recent projects in the marine environment: Tampa Bay Hard Bottom Monitoring (Feature 72) and Oil and Gas Environmental Monitoring Offshore Gabon, West Africa (Feature 156).

CSA’s EDGS team integrates Geographic Information System (GIS) tools and techniques in nearly every project we conduct. From data-rich maps to a web-based environmental Common Operating Picture (eCOP), our EDGS products are fundamental to the environmental services we provide clients in the United States and internationally.

CSA and HWCG Deliver Rapid Monitoring Solution for O&G Operators in the Gulf of Mexico

Rapid Monitoring Solution for O&G Operators in the Gulf of Mexico

CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA), a marine environmental consulting firm, and HWCG LLC, a consortium of 18 offshore oil and gas operators, collaborated on the design of a deepwater sampling and monitoring equipment program to support the environmental needs of the offshore industry. The equipment program remains containerized, on standby, and ready to be immediately mobilized in the event a deepwater blowout occurs in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.

The offshore oil and gas industry requires access to deepwater equipment, instruments, and services to support environmental monitoring for life of field activities, including exploratory drilling, development activities, and production. Equipment and instruments that can probe deepwater areas are highly specialized and require dedicated maintenance, mobilization, and deployment services to ensure utility, safety, and data quality.

CSA Unveils New Deepwater Video System

CSA expands deepwater capabilities with new 4k ultra HD video and photo platform

13 MARCH 2018 – STUART, FLORIDA. CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA) has developed a cost-effective deepwater video and photographic data collection platform to service the offshore oil and gas industry’s growing demand for deepwater environmental baseline surveys. The new system is capable of collecting video data in 4k Ultra HD format, which has FOUR times greater resolution than traditional HD video.

Gordon Stevens, CSA Vice President, General Manager explains the overall benefits of these types of camera systems: “The ability to deploy the system in either a drop or towed configuration offers significant cost savings over ROVs or AUVs for deepwater seafloor video collection due to reduced mobilization/demobilization time, lower operational day rates, reduced vessel size requirements, higher production rates, and overall portability. These benefits are passed down to our clients through reduced days at sea and lower project costs overall.”
