Energy

CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA) focuses on providing marine environmental consulting services associated with the sustainable exploration, production, and research of energy resources. Although concentrated primarily within the oil and gas industry, CSA provides services to support the expanding technology and regulation associated with renewable alternative energy sources such as wind, tidal, solar, and hydroelectric.

CSA established itself as an experienced, high-quality marine environmental service provider within the U.S. for a wide cross-section of the oil and gas sector during the industry boom in the 1970s and 1980s. These services included the development of environmental impact statements and assessments (EISs and EIAs) as well as full-service programs for regulatory compliance for offshore exploration and production activities. As the oil and gas industry expanded and corporations developed their interests worldwide, CSA responded to this corporate diversification by identifying suitable markets and opening strategically-located regional offices that now support a wide range of CSA services.

Identifying & Minimizing Environmental Impacts

To assist corporations and government agencies meet engineering and logistical constraints of energy development and distribution, CSA executes energy projects that involve identifying and minimizing potential environmental impacts. We offer services that integrate environmental and socioeconomic studies required for the assessment of environmental and social impacts that result from large developments. Environmental studies include baseline surveys (i.e., habitat characterization and social censuses), monitoring, fate and effects modeling, impact assessment, and restoration/mitigation.

Our personnel synthesize large amounts of interdisciplinary information to produce documents that are easy to read and understand. Coupled with an excellent reputation for performing extensive literature and data search and synthesis studies, CSA is respected for our ability to prepare easily-understood multidisciplinary environmental impact reports in an unbiased, time-efficient, and cost-effective manner to support informed energy resource decisions by both operators and regulatory agencies.

CSA personnel are considered experts by the regulatory and scientific communities at assessing potential impacts. We have extensive experience interacting with international and domestic. (federal, state, and local) regulatory and resource agencies, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA), Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), and others, providing U.S. National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents and other regulatory environmental documentation, field surveys, monitoring, and mitigation.
