Environmental Spill Response Services

As offshore energy exploration and production activities expand into greater ocean depths, more international locations, and more remote settings, it is increasingly important for oil and gas companies to have access to the personnel, equipment, and services required to plan and implement environmental sampling and monitoring activities in the marine environment.

Spill Response Support Services

CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA) provides marine environmental services to assist the energy industry with preparing for and responding to oil spills and damage assessments in the offshore environment. We provide Marine Environmental Services for Spill Response to support the energy industry with all of its marine environmental needs—from baseline surveys to potential damage assessments. These services include:

  • Sampling and monitoring – nearshore to deep sea
  • Dispersant monitoring – surface application and subsea injection
  • Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSE/HSSE) planning
  • Data collection, management, and quality assurance
  • Environmental baseline surveys
    • Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) tooling and integration
    • Sampling and analysis plans
    • Sediment sampling and coring
  • Damage assessments
  • Environmental impact assessments
  • Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) shoreline mapping
  • Scientific Tools and Equipment Program (STEP)
  • Environmental Data and Geospatial Services (EDGS)
    • Environmental common operating picture (E-COP)
    • Web-based GeoPortal services and cloud computing
  • Quality assurance plans

Spill Response Support Equipment

Equipment and instrumentation capable of deployment in the deep ocean are crucial components of effective environmental monitoring and spill response plans. For example, we own, maintain, and operate the equipment required to conduct real-time, in situ monitoring during the use of dispersants.

  • Surface slick sampling kits
  • Conductivity-Temperature-Depth (CTD) sensors
  • Dissolved oxygen sensors
  • Fluorometers
  • Turbidity meters
  • GO-FLO water sampling bottles
  • Differential GPS and navigation software
  • A-frames
  • Rosettes
  • Electromechanical cables and deck control units
  • Winches
  • Deep-sea video and still imaging systems
