CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA), a global marine environmental consulting firm, recently conducted an Environmental Baseline Survey (EBS) in offshore waters north of Trinidad for a major oil and gas operator. The EBS included the collection of baseline sediment and seawater environmental data (physical, chemical, and biological) for inclusion in a subsequent report.

The EBS report will now be incorporated into the operator’s permitting application to the local regulator for a comprehensive geotechnical and geophysical survey, as well as an exploration drilling program. The EBS also included hydrographic profiling of the water column.

“This is the latest in a series of recent EBS studies carried out by CSA teams in the region,” said Candice Leung Chee, CEO of CSA’s Trinidad & Tobago office. “CSA's programmatic approach to planning and conducting turnkey environmental surveys has proven instrumental to oil and gas operators with interests in the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic offshore South America—we have the local teams, techniques, and technologies to deliver best-in-class marine environmental data.”

The EBS was managed by teams operating out of the CSA’s Trinidad & Tobago office, based in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. The EBS was conducted aboard an offshore supply vessel, with CSA’s equipment installed onto the deck during the vessel mobilization phase of the project. Vessel mobilization, field sampling, and vessel demobilization were all completed over a period of seven days.
