A Toast to OTC!

Offshore energy professionals from around the world descended upon Houston, Texas in early May for the highly anticipated return of the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) to its fully in-person format. “Energy Evolution” was the central theme as delegates congregated at NRG Park from 2 – 5 May to discuss, among other things, the latest technological advances in the offshore oil and gas industry and how these breakthroughs will further balance the immediate need for energy security with the demands for progress towards long-term climate goals.

OTC is widely regarded as the gold standard when it comes to showcasing the latest innovations designed to enhance the safe and responsible exploration of new and existing offshore energy resources. Since the inaugural meeting of 12 engineering and scientific organizations back in 1969, OTC has attracted a global community of experts to examine and discuss solutions to current industry challenges. The latest innovations are those aimed to decarbonize, drive sustainability, and improve energy efficiency in the offshore industry. According to organizers, OTC 2022 saw more than 24,000 attendees, 7,000 of whom traveled to Houston from outside the United States. The exhibition area spanned more than 250,000 square feet, hosting 1,064 exhibiting companies from 39 countries.

“OTC Week” is a mainstay calendar commitment for offshore operators, developers, and the service industries that support them. In recent years, service industries have diversified as companies, large and small, look to harness the expanding capabilities of artificial intelligence and autonomy in the pursuit of new and improved best practices and net-zero ambitions. It is, without question, an exciting time to work in the offshore sector.

Continental Shelf Associates (CSA) is a unique family of specialist companies serving the environmental, geophysical, and geotechnical needs of the offshore energy community in the United States and internationally. In 2018, CSA started a tradition of hosting an annual cocktail reception during OTC Week at the popular Hotel ZaZa in Houston’s vibrant Museum District near NRG Park and other OTC Week events. Cancellations in 2020 and 2021 owing to the COVID-19 pandemic were disappointing, so this year team members from the CSA family were delighted to welcome colleagues and clients to an evening of face-to-face networking over delicious hors d’oeuvres, fine wines, and specialty cocktails. CSA Ocean Sciences, CSA Ciências Oceânicas, Okeanus Science and Technology, Bluefield Geoservices, TSC Strategic, Ocean Specialists, SeaRobotics, and Advanced Ocean Systems enjoyed time with guests from the offshore oil, gas, and wind industry during the ZaZa party on May 3.

The CSA family looks forward to working with our colleagues and clients in the year ahead, and we’ll hope to see you during OTC Week 2023 next year!
