CSA Hosts Local Field Ecology Class
CSA takes great pride in its outreach initiatives to the local community and strives to impart our enthusiasm about marine science on the next generation of scientists. As part of these initiatives, students from Dr. James Wetterer’s Field Ecology class at Florida Atlantic University (http://faumacarthurlibraryscience.blogspot.com/2018/02/) recently visited CSA’s offices in Stuart, Florida to learn a more about career opportunities in applied sciences and investigate ideas for their undergraduate theses.
The 19 students were hosted by CSA’s Marine Mammal Program Manager and Government Market Director, Mary Jo Barkaszi. During their tour, Barkaszi presented an overview of CSA’s global operations with a special presentation about marine acoustics and how studies in the field can be used for impact assessment and scientific investigations related to biodiversity, climate change, and population dynamics. Over the upcoming 2018-19 school year, Barkaszi will provide subject matter assistance to some students on their acoustics-focused projects.
