CSA Hosts THSOA New England Chapter Meeting
On 12 May 2022, CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA) hosted The Hydrographic Society of America (THSOA) New England Chapter’s Spring Meeting at their East Greenwich, Rhode Island office. Attended by numerous regional industry members, the meeting served as a planning session for THSOA New England and as an informal “Open House” at CSA’s Northeast Headquarters.
CSA’s Northeast Region Manager, Mr. Bob Erickson, gave a brief overview of CSA, its capabilities, and current areas of activity, including offshore wind. Mr. Erickson showed an informative video of the RV Dolphin, CSA’s multipurpose custom designed marine science vessel that has been especially configured to support geophysical survey operations. Mr. Jerry Kinsley of Hypack was also in attendance to discuss new methods of rendering geophysical data derived from sub-bottom profiler, magnetometer, and side-scan sonar equipment using a new software package–Hypack Geophysics. Mr. Kinsley also spoke about how this new software package can be utilized aboard autonomous platforms, such as uncrewed surface vehicles and autonomous surface vehicles.
THSOA Topics covered included:
- Voting in new Chapter Officers;
- Chapter growth and recruitment initiatives;
- Planning of future events and scholarship fundraising; and
- Education, and the need for more hydrographic surveyors.
CSA proudly supports the mission of THSOA to further the development of hydrographic survey services.
