Sea The Difference: Pillar Coral of the Carribean

The pillar coral (Dendrogyra cylindrus) is a hard coral that grows up from the seafloor without secondary branching.  Though usually smaller, the D. cylindrus can grow to a height of 3 m, with pillars more than 10 cm wide.  Photo credit: CSA Ocean Sciences Inc.
