(CSA), an international marine environmental consulting and survey company, today announced the official launch of Slick Kit to equip offshore professionals with the ability to collect opportunistic but high quality samples of suspected surface oil slicks and unidentified sheens in marine environments.

Offshore personnel on vessels and rigs are often the first to encounter suspected oil slicks and sheens on the sea surface. This kit, its instructions, and its supplies will enable the capture of samples for laboratory characterization, with less risk of contamination.

Slick Kit was developed by a team of leading ocean scientists and field technicians from CSA’s Offshore Energy Market with a mission to facilitate timely and controlled sample submission for laboratory analyzes of hydrocarbons—including total petroleum hydrocarbons, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and volatile organic compounds.

Slick Kit comes with standard operating procedures and all of the supplies needed to collect slick and sheen samples, such as Teflon nets which can be administered by hand or attached to long dipper poles.
